Spirit Rock Meditation Center

The rolling hills, meadows, creeks and oak woodlands of West Marin County, CA provide a serene natural setting for Buddhist teachings and meditation practices at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

JNRA developed plans for the restoration of Seneca Meadow across the creek from the newly built Community Meditation Hall.  Designed as a natural outdoor space with pathways, seating, native plant gardens, artwork and a small amphitheater, the meadow expands the suite of programs offered at Spirit Rock and facilitates the integration of the campus open space network.

In conjunction with the meadow restoration, site design plans were developed for other key campus features, including a clear entry sequence, new point of arrival and a restructured network of accessible paths of travel throughout the campus.

In addition, JNRA in consultation with The Watershed Nursery (TWN), developed planting plans for specific areas of the campus, as well as transitions between the natural and built environment.  Additionally, JNRA and TWN are designing an on-site nursery to sustain on-going landscape improvements as well as a food production program.
